5 new big name, national radio stations launch on DAB and DAB+ over the next 2 weeks.
Talksport owner, Wireless Group and Magic FM owner, Bauer Media are behind this rapid radio expansion on the digital radio service.
Wireless Group launches three new stations – talkSPORT2, talkRADIO and Virgin Radio.
talkSPORT 2, live on the airwaves this week. It has a huge focus on live sport rights, providing the best live sport and commentary 24 hours a day.
The station aims to reach a strong ABC1 audience of 291,000 listeners.
talkSPORT 2 will concentrate on coverage of live sport, including rugby, cricket, tennis, golf, football and horseracing, plus some US sport.
talkRADIO, a brand new personality-driven speech radio station will cover everything from politics to celebrity culture with intelligence, humour and passion.
The station is set to shake-up the speech radio category with some outspoken presenters and content.
The weekday line-up will feature Paul Ross, Sam Delaney, Julia Hartley-Brewer, Iain Lee and George Galloway.
The station aims to reach 372,000 listeners and launches on Monday 21st March 2016.
Iconic radio brand Virgin Radio will return to the airwaves Wednesday 30th March with Edith Bowman at the helm.
Edith will become the only full-time solo female breakfast presenter currently on national radio.
The station will play rock and pop music with a highly researched playlist to 374,000 listeners.
Virgin originally broadcast in the UK between 1993 and 2008 to record audiences.
Bauer Media have launched two new stations, which are an extension of the Magic brand. The stations will be broadcast to the nation on the newly launched second national digital radio multiplex.
Mellow Magic, an evening radio programme of timeless classics, has dominated its evening timeslot in London for over a decade.
Creating a standalone station in its own right was inevitable following the success the Kiss brand saw by extending its Kisstory programme the same way 2 years previously.
Mellow Magic launched on Monday (14th March) using its familiar playlist to appeal to their 50+ target audience.
Presenters include Patsy Kensit, John Hannah and Shaun Evans.
Mellow Magic currently reaches 778,000 listeners a week in London (RAJAR Q3 2015).
The show has the potential to reach 78% of UK adults (15+) and the station will reach 1 million listeners in 2017.
Magic Chilled is aimed at a younger, female prominent (60%) audience of 30-44 year olds.
The station will play a fresh mix of laidback pop, RnB and singer-songwriters scoping from 2000 to today.
Mellow Magic is currently available and Magic Chilled launches on 21st March.
